Fumigation is a technique used to handle severe pest infestations. It is usually disruptive to homes and businesses so is commonly only used as a final resort where an infestation is especially prolonged and other techniques for control have been unsuccesful. Fumigation is effective at managing a number of pests, it is commonly used for fleas, cockroaches and other crawling or flying insects.

Fumigation functions by sealing a building or room and then using an aerosol or fogger to spray the area with poison fumes. This heavily saturates the area with a toxic gas that kills the pests inside. For smaller areas, the room can be closed at entryways such as doors and windows and then sprayed. For bigger buildings, the building will either be closed or wrapped in a tent to ensure a sealed area for fumigation. The gases are sprayed inside the area and then left to work for a period. The amount of time will depend on the chemical type that’s used.

There are DIY fumigation options available such as insecticide ‘bombs’. These can be effective for small infestations, but for large or prolonged pest infestations a qualified pest control company will be best placed to survey the problem and accomplish the fumigation. Fumigation can be dangerous as it involves releasing large amounts of toxic gas into a contained area and so should only be completed by trained professionals.

Buxton is a spa town within Derbyshire. It’s on the border of the county boundary, with Cheshire towards the west and Staffordshire to the south, Buxton is often described as ‘The Gateway to the Peak District National Park’. Historically a municipal borough, Buxton joined with other localities in 1974 to establish the local government district and borough of High Peak inside the county of Derbyshire. Being 300 metres above sea level, Buxton is often referred to as England’s highest market town. This height means that the town is generally cooler than nearby places, with the daytime temperature being about 2 degrees Celsius lower than the temperature in Manchester. Found on the River Wye and overlooked by Axe Edge Moor, Buxton is traditionally a spa town as a result of the geothermal spring that rises at a constant temperature of 28 degrees C. The water from the spring flows to St. Ann’s Well through a pipe system which is located opposite the Crescent close to the town centre. Buxton gained a great deal of fame when the spa was recommended by Erasmus Darwin to Josiah Wedgwood in the latter half of the 19th century. The water from the geothermal spring is also bottled and sold internationally by Buxton Mineral Water Company. Based on the 2011 Census, the resident population of the town is 22,115. The town has seen continuous expansion since the coming of the railway in 1863. There is also a fairly substantial student population, with the Devonshire Campus of the University of Derby being in 1 of Buxton’s historic buildings.
