Moths are a widespread species of pest insect in the United Kingdom. There are two major types of moths: carpet or clothes moths and stored product moths. Carpet or clothes moths feed on natural materials such as wool or silk. They prefer to live in dark areas such as wardrobes or undisturbed sections of carpets like below beds. Stored product moths will infest stored food products such as flour. There are several different kinds of moths that cause these infestations, so identification is important to decide on the best treatment. Few moths in the United Kingdom are dangerous to people, however they can damage property.

Clothes moths can cause significant damage to clothes that are stored away, which includes sentimental items such as wedding gowns. The adult moths do not cause any harm, the larvae eat the organic fibres. Mature female moths lay eggs on the clothes and as they emerge the larvae will eat the surrounding fabric. Moths breed swiftly so a small infestation can easily worsen. Stored product moths will lay eggs in food products they can access.

Effective moth pest control will change depending on the species of moth that is causing the infestation. Clothes moths can be difficult to eradicate. Routinely cleaning stored clothes at high temperatures and dusting the areas where they are stored will help to eliminate areas where moths can live and breed. Experienced pest control companies can fumigate the area using chemicals or use a heat control technique to raise the temperature in a contained area and kill the moths. They’ll also be able to advise you of specific techniques for getting rid of pests from delicate items such as wedding gowns.

Buxton is a spa town in Derbyshire. It is on the edge of the county boundary, with Cheshire to the west and Staffordshire to the south, Buxton is generally referred to as ‘The Gateway to the Peak District National Park’. Traditionally a municipal borough, Buxton joined other locations in 1974 to establish the local government district and borough of High Peak in the county of Derbyshire. At 300 metres above sea level, Buxton is often called England’s highest market town. Such height means that the town is usually cooler than nearby areas, with the daytime temperature about two degrees C lower than the temperature in Manchester. Found on the River Wye and overlooked by Axe Edge Moor, Buxton is historically a spa town as a result of the geothermal spring that rises at a continual temperature of 28 degrees C. The water from the spring flows to St. Ann’s Well via a pipe system which is situated opposite the Crescent in close proximity to the town centre. Buxton gained a lot of popularity after the spa was recommended by Erasmus Darwin to Josiah Wedgwood in the latter half of the 19th century. The water from the geothermal spring is also bottled and sold on an international scale by Buxton Mineral Water Company. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the population of the town is around 22,000. The town has witnessed continuous growth since the coming of the railway in 1863. There is also a relatively substantial student population, with the Devonshire Campus of the University of Derby being in one of Buxton’s historic buildings.
