There are a wide selection of species of rodents and many of these are considered to be pests in the United Kingdom. The most prevalent rodent pests are rats and mice, but squirrels and voles are also present in the UK. The technique of pest control for these animals will vary, but rats and mice are often managed using similar methods, making variations to account for the difference in proportions between the species. Rodents cause significant issues if an infestation is permitted to grow too large. Because of the rapid rate of breeding, rodent populations can grow very quickly.

Rodents in structures may cause problems if left uncontrolled, and the assistance of qualified pest control companies should be sought promptly. Rodents spread diseases and can contaminate foodstuffs if allowed to travel into kitchens or other areas of the house. They might also gnaw through electrical wiring or structural components of the building, causing fire risks or even harm to the building frame.

There are a variety of methods of controlling rodent pests. Live capture or snap traps can be utilised, or poisoned baits can be laid. Any pest control method must be carried out together with deterrent methods and access prevention to make sure that the pest control is successful. This might include blocking up access holes into buildings, as well as ensuring there are no food sources for the rodents to eat. Experienced pest control companies can survey the building and determine areas where deterrent methods and access blocking should be used.

Baldock is a historic market town in the local government district of North Hertfordshire in the ceremonial county of Hertfordshire, England where the River Ivel rises. It lies 33 miles (53 kilometres) north of London, and boasts a population of about 9900. Nearby towns are Royston to the northeast, Letchworth and Hitchin to the southwest and Stevenage towards the south. The contemporary layout of the town and numerous buildings in the centre date back to the sixteenth century, with the earliest dating from the fourteenth century. The town thrived where the old Great North Road and the Icknield Way crossed. Despite the building of the A1(M) motorway in 1963, which bypassed the town, and which was referred to as the Baldock Bypass for some years, it was still a major traffic bottleneck until March 2006, when a new bypass removed the A505 road, part of the old Icknield Way east of Baldock. Since the 16th century, Baldock has been a centre for malting, subsequently becoming a regional brewing centre with at least three large brewers still trading in the area at the close of the 19th century, despite a decline in demand for the types of beer made locally. The 1881 Census records about 30 drinking establishments. During the early twentieth century, a big number of pubs continued to operate, many of which were sustained by the adjacent and much bigger town of Letchworth, which had no alcohol retailers before 1958, and had only two pubs and 1 hotel bar till the mid-1990s. Its larger population had for many years visited both Baldock and Hitchin for refreshment.
