Biting insects are a very problematic pest as they can cause infection and spread diseases. There are a number of biting insects that are common in the United Kingdom. The most widespread of these are fleas, ticks and mosquitos, although there are many more.

The main element of controlling an infestation of biting insects is correct identification of the insect. The easiest way to achieve this is by visual examination of an insect, although this can be hard with hidden or really small pests. Another alternative is to identify bugs by their bite. The severity of bites can differ from individual to individual, but a good indication of the species is the location of the bite. For example, bites on legs and ankles are typical of fleas, whereas mosquitos will frequently bite arms, shoulders or other areas of the body that are exposed while in bed.

Professional pest control companies will be able to identify biting insects. Following this, they will agree with you a plan for treating the infestation. This will change depending on the species of the insect, but will typically involve using an insecticide spray or powder in the area of the house where the insect is present. Severe infestations of biting bugs may necessitate fumigation to properly solve the problem.

Baldock is a historic market town inside the local government district of North Hertfordshire in the ceremonial county of Hertfordshire, England where the River Ivel rises. It is positioned 33 miles (53 kilometres) north of London, and features a population of around 9900. Nearby towns include Royston to the northeast, Letchworth and Hitchin to the southwest and Stevenage to the south. The modern layout of the town and numerous buildings in the centre date from the sixteenth century, with the oldest dating back to the fourteenth century. The town thrived where the old Great North Road and the Icknield Way crossed. Despite the building of the A1(M) motorway in 1963, which bypassed the town, and which was called the Baldock Bypass for some years, it was still a major traffic bottleneck until March 2006, when a new bypass removed the A505 road, a part of the old Icknield Way which was east of Baldock. Since the 16th century, Baldock has been a centre for malting, subsequently becoming a regional brewing centre with at least 3 large brewers still trading in the area at the end of the 19th century, in spite of a decline in demand for the kinds of beer produced locally. The 1881 Census notes around 30 drinking establishments. During the early 20th century, a large number of pubs continued to operate, several of which were sustained by the nearby and significantly larger town of Letchworth, which had no alcohol retailers before 1958, and had only 2 pubs and a single hotel bar until the mid-1990s. Its larger population had for a lot of years visited both Baldock and Hitchin for refreshment.
