Fumigation is a technique used to handle serious pest infestations. It is usually disruptive to homes and businesses so is commonly only used as a last resort where an infestation is especially persistent and other techniques for control have failed to work. Fumigation is effective at managing a range of pests, it is commonly used for fleas, cockroaches and other crawling or flying insects.

There is a selection of chemicals designed for fumigation, and a range of methods used for spraying. Recently, some fumigation chemicals have been banned because of the high risk of causing pollution to the atmosphere. Fumigation can be dangerous as it involves releasing huge amounts of toxic gas into a contained area and so should only be carried out by trained specialists.
