Moles are a frequent pest in the United Kingdom. They tend to affect properties in the country, but they have been known to affect urban lawns and gardens. Moles are burrowing mammals which can cause serious damage to lawns and gardens as they burrow. They can travel significant distances underneath the ground in a quick space of time. Moles will also use left behind tunnels to travel, so they may reenter locations that they had previously left. Moles feed on earthworms and other bugs that are in the soil.

Moles leave molehills, which are mounds of earth that protrude from the lawn. These molehills are their way of excavating the earth that they dig through. They are able to cause considerable damage to lawns as they burrow quickly. Molehills can quickly accumulate and damage a recently beautiful and well-kept garden. While a big number of molehills can indicate the presence of a group of moles, it may be the work of a solitary mole.

DIY pest control options are available for a mole infestation. These range from snap traps that can be buried into molehills to deterrence methods such as noise emitters. Moles are extremely sensitive to light and noise so some deterrence methods can be successful. However, it can be very difficult to determine which tunnels the moles are using, and so it’s recommended to use an experienced mole catcher or pest control company. These specialists can identify which tunnels the moles are using to travel and identify which areas will be most effective for trapping.

Carterton is the second biggest town in West Oxfordshire. It’s about 2 miles (3 km) south of the A40 road and 4 miles (6.4 km) south-west of Witney. The 2011 Census recorded the parish’s population as 15769. The pattern of the present settlement dates from 1894 when a part of the estate was sold to Homesteads Limited whose director was William Carter. The land was divided into plots of six acres and sold for £20 an acre with bungalows costing from £120. Many settlers were retired soldiers and people moving from the towns. Carterton quickly made its name in the market gardening world. Black grapes from Frenchester Nurseries and the famous Carterton tomatoes were sold at Covent Garden Market. With the growth of the village, the small mission church at the central crossroads was replaced in 1963 by the church of St. John the Evangelist. The link with the mother church of St. Mary’s at Black Bourton was kept alive by the donation of one of the bells from the tower. This was made by H. Knight of Reading and is dated 1619. In the first decade of the 21st century, the new Shilton Park district of northeast Carterton was constructed, offering a mix of housing for private ownership and social letting. The new St. John’s Church of England primary school has been constructed at Shilton Park and building of a local shopping centre is now finished. There are quite a few shops, 3 supermarkets and automobile parking within the town centre. The Countryside Agency has awarded Carterton Beacon Status for the work that the Fast Forward team is undertaking on the regeneration of the town centre.
