Drain flies are a widespread pest insect in the United Kingdom. Drain flies lay their eggs in drains, sewers and other standing water. They breed very quickly, meaning that if you discover a few adult flies there is probably substantially more eggs. Adult flies will fly out of drains and usually die quickly, but they can become a nuisance inside homes. They do not tend to spread diseases but could contaminate food products.

Drain flies can be identified by their little size and dark colour. They are covered in hair which gives them a fluffy look, and they also have large wings that they fold above themselves when not in use. Drain flies can be easily confused with fruit flies or other types of flies. Correct identification and location is key to a successful treatment.

If you believe you have a drain fly infestation, you can test drains by half covering them with a piece of tape. Leave this for approximately four days. If you find flies caught on the tape then the drain is infested. The best way to control a drain fly infestation is to get rid of their breeding areas. They prefer to breed on organic matter that’s caught in clogged drains, and so thorough cleaning of drains is a successful way to get rid of drain flies. However, proper cleaning of pipes is often very messy. Expert pest control companies can identify and locate a drain fly infestation and execute a highly effective treatment to manage the pests.

Carterton is the second biggest town in West Oxfordshire. It is around 2 miles (3 km) south of the A40 road and 4 miles (6.4 km) south-west of Witney. The 2011 Census recorded the parish’s population as 15769. The pattern of the present settlement dates from 1894 when part of the estate was sold to Homesteads Limited whose director was William Carter. The land was split into plots of 6 acres and sold for £20 an acre with bungalows costing from £120. Lots of the settlers were retired soldiers and individuals moving from the towns. Carterton soon made its name in the market gardening world. Black grapes from Frenchester Nurseries and the popular Carterton tomatoes were sold at Covent Garden Market. With the development of the village, the little mission church at the central crossroads was replaced in 1963 by the church of St. John the Evangelist. The link with the mother church of St. Mary’s at Black Bourton was kept alive by the donation of one of the bells from the tower. This was produced by H. Knight of Reading and is dated 1619. In the initial decade of the twenty-first century, the new Shilton Park district of northeast Carterton was constructed, providing a mix of housing for private ownership and social letting. The new St. John’s Church of England primary school has been built at Shilton Park and building of a local shopping centre is now finished. You’ll find quite a few shops, three supermarkets and auto parking in the town centre. The Countryside Agency has awarded Carterton Beacon Status for the work that the Fast Forward team is undertaking on the regeneration of the town centre. For all your home upgrades, make sure that you employ trustworthy specialists in Carterton to ensure that you get the most effective quality.
