Ants are a common nuisance pest in the UK. While they are advantageous to the environment in the garden, when they are inside properties in great numbers they can be difficult. Ants do not ordinarily pass on diseases, however they will eat or take back to their nest whatever food they can locate. They can contaminate food, and it is not advisable to consume food that ants may have touched or been near. Some types of ants in the United Kingdom can sting, and are dangerous if a nest is disturbed.

If the problem is prolonged, bait traps can be laid in areas where ants are frequently moving. This will appeal to the ants and prevent them from travelling further into the building.

Often the best way to control an ant infestation is to remove the nest. This can be done using insecticide powder that is applied both to the nest and in the nearby area to ensure any ants that return to the nest are affected.
