Weevils are a type of insect pest. There are many different varieties of weevils, although most are stored product insects which means they typically get into homes through dried foodstuffs such as rice or cereal. Rice and maize weevils will enter into homes in this manner. Vine weevils are more widespread outside as they feed on shrubs and other plants and can cause significant damage to gardens. Vine weevils can be controlled using insecticides in the affected area, while stored product weevils are much more challenging to take care of as they will easily infest a kitchen.

Weevils can be quickly recognised as they are small beetles with snout-like heads. It is harder to distinguish between different varieties of weevil, however. Experienced pest control experts will be able to properly identify the weevil that is creating an infestation.

Pest control of weevils can be difficult. The most effective treatments involve cleaning the entire surrounding area inside the property and eliminating any stored food products that may be contaminated. Insecticides can also be used, although it’s important to only use insecticides that are safe to be employed around food. Weevils can breed very quickly and lay eggs which are too small to be properly removed from stored products, so it is often more effective to simply dispose of any contaminated foods.
