Weevils are a type of insect pest. There are various different species of weevils, although most are stored product insects which means they often get into homes through dried foodstuffs such as rice or cereal. Rice and maize weevils will get into homes in this manner. Vine weevils are more widespread outside the home as they feed on shrubs and other plants and can cause considerable damage to gardens. Vine weevils can be treated using chemical treatments in the affected area, while stored product weevils are a great deal more difficult to manage as they can quickly infest a kitchen.

Weevils can be quickly recognised as they are small beetles with snout-like heads. It is more difficult to distinguish between different species of weevil, however. Skilled pest control specialists will be able to correctly identify the weevil that is creating an infestation.

Pest control of weevils can be challenging. The best methods consist of cleaning the entire surrounding area inside the property and getting rid of any stored products that may be contaminated. Insecticides can also be used, although it is vital to only use insecticides that are safe to be used around food. Weevils can breed very quickly and lay eggs which are too small to be properly removed from stored products, so it is often better to simply dispose of any contaminated food products.
