Weevils are a kind of insect pest. There are several different kinds of weevils, although the majority are stored product insects meaning they tend to get into homes in dried foodstuffs such as rice or cereal. Rice and maize weevils will enter into homes this way. Vine weevils are more prevalent outdoors as they feed on shrubs and other plant life and can cause considerable damage to gardens. Vine weevils can be treated using insecticides in the afflicted area, while stored product weevils are a lot more difficult to treat as they can quickly infest a kitchen.

Weevils can be quickly recognised as they are small beetles with snout-like heads. It is more difficult to differentiate between different varieties of weevil, however. Expert pest control specialists will be able to properly identify the weevil that is causing an infestation.

Pest control of weevils can be challenging. The best methods require cleaning the entire surrounding area inside the home and getting rid of any stored food products which might be contaminated. Insecticides may also be used, although it is important to only use insecticides that are safe to be used around food. Weevils can breed rapidly and lay eggs that are too small to be properly removed from stored products, so it is often better to simply dispose of any contaminated food products.
