Several species of mosquito can be found in the United Kingdom. While they aren’t especially common, they do cause infestations in homes and gardens and these can be quite difficult. Mosquitoes breed around standing water sources such as bird baths and water butts. Mosquitoes in the United Kingdom can bite humans. The female mosquito will bite prior to laying eggs. While a single mosquito in the house most likely is not a indication of a serious problem, lots of mosquitoes in the same area can be considered a indication of an infestation and this should be managed as they can breed quickly.
Mosquitoes in the UK do not spread diseases, however they can bite and in large numbers this can be very painful. These pest insects can cause painful, itchy bites in humans and domestic pets, especially if the mosquitoes are left to travel around the house at night.
The key to successful mosquito control is accurate identification of the species. Although some mosquitoes can be recognised incorrectly as other insects such as gnats or crane flies, mosquitoes make a distinctive high pitched whining noise when they fly. Experienced pest control companies can identify the insect and then apply a highly effective pest control strategy. This will usually involve use of a knock down insecticide spray to get rid of adult mosquitoes, followed by an insecticide treatment of plants and bushes in the area along with any standing water sources. This last treatment is designed to kill any larvae or eggs that are present as well as removing the places that mosquitoes can lay eggs.

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in south-west London, England, forms part of Outer London and is the only London borough on both sides of the River Thames. The borough wasestablished in 1965 by the merger of the Municipal Borough of Twickenham from Middlesex with the Municipal Borough of Richmond plus the Municipal Borough of Barnes from Surrey; the new council’s offices were centred at York House in Twickenham. It covers a total area of around 22.17 square miles.
There are over one hundred parks and open spaces inside its boundary and 21 miles (34 km) of river frontage. 140 hectares within the borough are designated as part of the Metropolitan Green Belt. The predominant other land use is residential use and most companies inside the boundaries consist of retail, property improvement and development and professional services. Some areas of it, such as Barnes, Richmond, St Margarets, Cambridge Park and Marble Hill, areas of Twickenham and a great deal of East Sheen, compete with Stanmore Hill and Kenley as the highest house-price districts and neighbourhoods of Outer London.
In 2006, studies found that, on the quantitative statistical indices used, the borough had the top standard of living in London and was within the best quarter of local authorities nationwide.
