Weevils are a type of insect pest. There are several different types of weevils, although the majority are stored product insects which means they typically get into houses via dried foodstuffs such as rice or cereal. Rice and maize weevils will enter into homes using this method. Vine weevils are more widespread in the garden as they feed on shrubs and other plant life and can cause considerable damage to gardens. Vine weevils can be controlled using insecticides in the affected area, while stored product weevils are a lot more challenging to control as they will quickly infest a kitchen.

Weevils can be quickly recognised as they are small beetles with snout-like heads. It is difficult to differentiate between different species of weevil, however. Experienced pest control pros will be able to accurately identify the weevil that is creating an infestation.

Pest control of weevils can be challenging. The best treatments involve cleaning the entire surrounding area inside the home and eliminating any stored products that may be contaminated. Insecticides can also be used, although it is important to only use insecticides that are safe to be applied around food. Weevils can breed very quickly and lay eggs that are too small to be properly removed from stored products, so it is often better to simply get rid of any contaminated food products.
